The first match of the doubleheader on Saturday will be between the last season bottom, two teams. While Rising Pune Supergiant has begun their IPL 2017 season with a bang, for KXIP it will the first match. Pune won a brilliant first game against Mumbai Indians courtesy great batting display from Jinx and Captain Smith. Kings XI Punjab has a new captain this year in the form of Maxwell and it would be interesting to see when the two Australian teammates captaining different sides will conflict. The game is scheduled to happen at the second home ground of KXIP -Indore.
Last time they played: the last time these two team played was in Vishakapatnam in the last season and Rising Pune Supergiant emerged as the winner. A total of 173 runs target was set by the KXIP side which was chased down on the last ball by the heroics of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Rising Pune Supergiant won that match by 4 wickets.
Head to head battle: They have won a game each in their total conflicts of two matches. So the scores are level as of now and it would be interesting to see who draws the next blood.

Rising Pune Supergiant: The combination of playing eleven worked for the Supergiants in the last match of Indian premier league. The decision to play Tahir and Zampa both the spinners proved fruitful. Faf du plessis will have to wait for few more games before making out in the playing eleven. Smith and Rahane were brilliant with the bat and Tahir and Bhatia will accurate in their bowling. The only weak link in the team was their fast bowling which looked lack lustered and gone for plenty. Pune Supergiant is unlikely to make any changes in the playing eleven but there are possibilities of Shardul Thakur or Ishwar Pandey getting a game in place of Ashok Dinda.

Kings XI Punjab: The most prominent change in the Kings XI Punjab squad is that of a captain. Glenn Maxwell is the new captain for the Punjabis. This time Kings eleven Punjab would be determined to be a high ranking side. There is one major injury concern for the team which makes Murali Vijay out from the squad for the whole season. Ishant Sharma was backed recently as his replacement and he is likely to play the game at the first place. Manan Vohra will either have the support of Glenn Maxwell or Wridiman Saha at the opening. Axar Patel will be their prime spin bowler while Maxwell, Stoinis, and Miller will form the lower batting order. The selection of two out of Guptill, Amla, Marsh, Stoinis and Sammy would be difficult for the team.

Players in the spotlight:
