Team Analysis: Royal Challengers Bangalore

Much like proteas Royal Challengers Bangalore have immense talent and caliber as on papers but to support this they don’t have a single trophy of IPL. On paper, this team has got greatest of T20 players but they have never won a single IPL crown. The closest this team reached to the trophy was in the last season of IPL, riding on Kohli’s greatest IPL run and extremely attacking capacity  RCB reached the final of IPL 2016. But they were cut short with a more powerful performance from the Hyderabad’s side. This year Kohli’s man would love to acclaim a trophy to their name.

RCB major worries every year is their lack of bowling at depths over. Last year the last over specialist Chris Jordan was added to the squad but he failed to deliver up to his expectations and was finally axed from the squad this year  IPL 2017. The other major exclusions from their squad were that of Australia’s Kane Williamson and South Africa’s David Wiese. So that makes the counting to three overseas bowler exclusions. Other major exclusions included that of Jharkhand’s fast bowler Varun Aaron and Kashmir’s Parveez Rasool. With the criticism faced due to their bowling, RCB omitted total of 10 players from their last year squad which mostly consisted of bowlers.

In IPL auction 2017, Royal challengers major worries were to find replacements for all these fast bowlers and with Starc opting out from the IPL 2017 due to injuries there was accumulation in their troubles. Bangalore franchise bought a total of 5 players with all of them being bowlers and it is obvious because their batting is already shredded with star performers. Their major buy was that of Tymal mills England’s T20 expert death over bowler who was the second most expensive but for the season 10. RCB paid a heavy price of 12 crores for Tymal mills. Tymal became the most expensive bowler ever bought in all 10 seasons. Pawan Negi who was one of the expensive buys of last year was sold for little less this year and grabbed up by RCB for 1crore. Domestic fast sensation Aniket Choudhary was the other buy for which RCB invested heavily and paid a whopping amount of 2 crores. Billy stanlake Australian fast bowler and Pravin Dubey were the other buys for the men in red. With all five buys being bowlers their bowling unit now looks pretty strong.

Batting stature of  RCB was never in doubt, with team formation being of that highest individual score maker Chris Gayle, all-time highest run getter of IPL Virat  Kohli, world’s best all-rounder for a reason Shane Watson and then there is AB de Villiers who on any given day can take the match away from you. This top four is enough to make the moral of the other team descend. There are many Indian domestic talents too in for batting department, there is KL Rahul who is in great touch whatsoever. And Mumbai-based hard hitting batsman Kedhar Jadhav who is no gimmick with the bat. Mandeep Singh the hard-hitting opener from Punjab and the young sensation Sarfaraz Khan. Their batting looks far better than any other given team of  IPL 2017. Sachin baby and Travis’ head can be devastating lower down the order. Kohli has only missed one match in all his nine seasons of IPL for RCB and with him being out for the first opening game, it would be interesting to see how this young talent performs. The spin department looks conventional with Badree,  Shamshi and yuzvendra Chahal forming the lineup. With the inclusion of Pawan Negi, it has boosted up the chances of alternatives in the spin department. Apart from Tymal mills and Adam Milne, there are not very big names from international fast bowlers and their fast bowling will revolve around domestic Speedsters like S Aravind, Harshal Patel, and Aniket Choudhary. The experience of all-rounders like Shane Watson, Stuart Binny, and Travis Head can add depth in both their batting and bowling.

Royal challengers Bangalore are always expected to perform well, people are always there backing them up. As the team looks on paper it can overcome any given obstacles. With Kohli been in impeccable form and his eminent captaincy will surely boost the chances of RCB in IPL 2017.
