It took almost four years for Ravindra Jadeja to make a test debut after making his international ODI debut long back in 2014. The intensity and caliber of Jadeja’s bowling always went unnoticed and he was immensely considered for the shorter form of the game. Being the only batsman to score three triple centuries in Ranji trophy and with the highest score of 331, he was handed the test debut at last.
He didn’t disappoint the selector and on his maiden series against Australia dismissed Michael Clarke five times in as much as six innings. There are not many variations in the bowling of Ravi Jadeja but the angle of his bowling and the time taken to complete his overs makes him a lot different bowler. Jadeja has always proved his deliveries unplayable in spin friendly tracks but there was not much in favor of his batting in the matter of test cricket before this season. Jadeja was always considered a hard-hitting batsman who can gift his wicket any given time. But this season and especially the ongoing series against Australia presents his different character.
This time there was much-needed grit shown in the innings of Ravi Jadeja. He played with much responsiveness and when needed scored boundaries at his will. This season remains special for Jadeja as the famous sword celebration is becoming a common sight in Indian test cricket. Apart from winning matches against opposition by his bowling, Jadeja now also delivers with bat whenever the team needs it.
Dharamsala test saw similar innings of grit and intent when Indian team needed it the most. Though Jadeja missed out a well deserved hundred but his score of 63 was full of responsibilities and grits. With the fine innings of 63, he also broke and made some records.
# Jadeja became the second highest wicket taker in this season after Ashwin with 71 wickets to his tally.
# Joint second most 6 50+ scores this season for India same as Vijay, Rahul and Kohli. Only Pujara has more 50+ than Jadeja this season.
# three player to take 50 wickets and score 500 runs in a season: Mitchell Johnson, Kapil Dev, and Ravindra Jadeja.
Hope he will continue his tremendous form with both bat and ball and we would witness more of his sword celebration in upcoming series.
